Genie Industries is a global manufacturer of aerial lifts with $2 billion in annual revenue. Genie was interested in deploying SharePoint portal for collaboration, document management and search across their four major U.S. locations.
The Challenge
Genie sought a solution that would allow them to search their SharePoint site and file folders for relevant information. They were also interested in a project and team sites where documents could be managed, and collaboration could occur without developing and supporting custom components.
When RedTech met with Genie, they had received a bid from another vendor for Phase 1 of this project for $250,000. Additionally, they were told they would need to procure a Google appliance for $100,000 to receive the search results they wanted, and develop several custom components to accomplish several tasks that could be achieved with OOB SharePoint components. This proposal was being reviewed by the senior management team for approval.
The Solution
RedTech’s expertise across the entire SharePoint platform allowed us to propose a solution for Phase 1 that took advantage of out-of-the-box SharePoint functionality and components without relying on significant amounts of custom code. RedTech proposed a complete solution for $70,000. Additionally, Genie was able to save $100,000 by not purchasing the Google Search Appliance as recommended by the other vendor because RedTech was able to configure SharePoint Search to meet Genie’s requirements.
The Results
RedTech completed Phase 1 on time and on budget and Genie has just “gone live” with this functionality across all four U.S. locations. They are thrilled with the results and the cost savings. RedTech is currently working with Genie on “Phase 1.5,” which will deploy this functionality at Genie’s international sites in Asia and Europe.
